Barbara and Gary were determined to create a high-quality home built to exacting standards. And for that, they wanted a skilled team who could bring their vision to life. The couple visited the Landmark Homes Whitianga Showhome in 2019, impressed by the design and craftsmanship, they knew  this design would create the perfect starting point. 

With the help of architect Lindsay Mackie, the couple started with the Showhome's plans as a base and incorporated their ideas and personal touch to create a stunning custom design. 

“We knew what we wanted for the floor plan, but we weren’t sure about the elevation,” says Barbara. “Lindsay came up with an amazing design that we would never have thought of. He sent the plans through to Landmark Homes who embraced our vision and were happy to work with us to bring it to reality.”

Barbara and Gary’s home is a masterpiece of contemporary design and thoughtful functionality. The clever layout of the home maximises privacy without sacrificing openness. A large open-plan living area seamlessly connects the kitchen, dining, and living spaces, making it perfect for entertaining. High ceilings add to the spacious feel, while strategically placed partitions create intimate nooks for relaxation and privacy.

One of the standout features is the extensive use of glass to capture those breathtaking canal views. Large sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling windows let natural light flood the home, making it bright and airy. The addition of clerestory windows in the kitchen not only adds extra light but also create visual interest, really enhancing the open feel of the space.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, designed to be both practical and stylish. The striking island bench, topped with beautiful dark Titanium Gold granite, immediately catches the eye. With a luxurious leathered finish, the granite adds both warmth and texture. The island features a waterfall design, with the granite gracefully extending down to the floor.

The island bench is not only a centrepiece but also highly functional, featuring two easily accessible dish drawers on either side of the sink, ample storage space, and an integrated wine fridge.

Barbara put a lot of thought into perfecting the kitchen design. “I think we went through 13 versions of the kitchen design. That was probably the hardest part,” she says. “But it was definitely worth it. The result is fantastic, I love it!”

The thoughtful layout ensures everything is within easy reach, making it a dream kitchen for cooking and entertaining. The cabinetry offers plenty of storage, with clever features like cupboards with bifold doors that open to reveal a hidden workbench with shelves above it. This area is perfect for keeping appliances like the toaster and mixer out of sight but easily accessible.

The master suite is a luxurious retreat designed for comfort and style. Large glass sliding doors open up to the deck, offering stunning views of the canal right from the comfort of the bed. A striking feature wall with floral wallpaper adds a touch of elegance and personality to the space. 

Connected to the bedroom is a spacious walk-in wardrobe, providing ample storage with thoughtfully designed shelving and drawers. The spa-like ensuite bathroom is another highlight of the master suite. Fully tiled and boasting twin sinks, twin showers, and plenty of room to move around, the ensuite combines functionality with luxury. The shower area features glass doors, adding to the modern and open feel of the space. The ensuite vanity, as well as those in the family bathroom and powder room, is topped with the same granite countertop used in the kitchen, adding a cohesive and elegant touch.

Barbara says their experience of working with Landmark Homes has been overwhelmingly positive. “From the initial concept to the final build, Landmark Homes supported us every step of the way,” she says. “Our home was a challenging build at times, but Landmark was very supportive in sourcing contractors, ensuring quality work, and paying attention to the details, all of which has achieved a fantastic outcome for us."
