A rural retreat 

Nestled in the semi-rural suburb of South Swanson, this home is set on a spacious block of land, allowing for an expansive single-level design. "The clients had plenty of space to work with, so they wanted a home that was not only spacious but also flowed beautifully from one area to the next,” says Landmark Homes Auckland Central West franchise owner, Warwick Aldridge. The design included a large four-car garage that supports the homeowners’ business needs and provides plenty of space for work vehicles and equipment. 

Barn-style exterior with contemporary flair

Drawing inspiration from Landmark’s popular barn-style homes range, the exterior features bandsaw plywood and batons, giving it a rustic yet contemporary look. 

“The homeowners wanted their build to fit in with the rural landscape –something simple, but with a traditional look," says Warwick. 

The choice of materials and the earthy colour palette allow the home to blend beautifully into the bush-clad surroundings. The wooden boardwalk and the concrete slab at the entrance work together to create a welcoming first impression, seamlessly introducing the natural and modern elements that are echoed throughout the interior spaces.

Open and inviting living spaces

The main living area is designed for both relaxation and entertainment. Polished concrete floors add a modern touch, while two large sliding doors open out to a covered portico, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. 

A built-in fireplace, positioned between the sliders, serves as a central feature, adding warmth and character. An additional separate living area can be closed off to create a private, cosy environment when needed. 

“With two increasingly independent teenagers, the family wanted spaces where they could come together but also have their own private areas when needed. This layout offers the perfect balance," says Warwick.

The kitchen is a harmonious blend of style and functionality. Featuring a clean, white design with timber highlights, the space is both attractive and practical. The front of the breakfast bar and the extractor unit are clad in timber, complemented by floating shelves, creating a striking focal point. 

Large windows flood the kitchen with natural light, and quality appliances tick the boxes for a top-notch cooking experience. Ample storage space meets the needs of a busy family. "With two teens in the house, the kitchen needed to be a practical space where the family could gather and interact," says Warwick.

The outdoor living area is a highlight of this home. The large portico, which runs the length of the living area, offers a perfect spot for barbecues, entertaining, or enjoying an alfresco breakfast. The same concrete flooring from the interior continues outside, enhancing the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
