With panoramic views of the ever-shifting landscape, this incredible New Plymouth coastal retreat was crafted to capture the natural beauty of the ocean and mountains from every angle. Taking home Gold in the 2019 House of the Year Awards, Master Builder and New Plymouth & Taranaki Landmark Homes franchise owner Scott Vile explains how this captivating coastal retreat came to be.
With a magical section secured and plans of designing and building their dream home in New Plymouth’s exclusive coastal farm community of Tapuae Country Estate, couple Pete and Claire were excited to embark on their journey with Landmark.
“Owners Pete and Claire found the land and approached Landmark to Design and Build it for them,” Scott says. “Originally, they wanted to build a large Tuscan-style home using the Te Anau Ready to Build Plan. When their circumstances changed, they didn’t want to lose their section, so we pivoted direction and built a beach-style holiday home that focuses on the views.”
With unforeseen circumstances seeing the couple moving north before building began, it was up to the trusted team at Landmark’s New Plymouth & Taranaki franchise to craft the breath taking bach.
“It was a bit sad when the clients left,” Scott says. “That day, they came into the office and reviewed the plans. They were happy and said go ahead and get it done. Pete and Claire put a lot of faith in us, and we were happy to repay their trust with this incredible
holiday home.”
Just a stone’s throw from the sea, the modern four bedroom home nestles perfectly into the landscape. Its elongated style, separated into two distinct wings, and large sliding glass doors maximise the natural light and make the most of the views from every angle.
“One of the standouts of this build, apart from the view,” Scott says, “is the covered portico connected to the open-plan lounge and kitchen. A three-sided shelter lets the couple enjoy the spectacular scenery without worrying about the elements.”
Polished concrete and neutral finishes in the sleek bathrooms and galley kitchen gives the home a sense of serenity and cohesion, allowing the beauty of nature to take the lead. A log fire is a focal point in the spacious lounge, offering cosy comfort in the cooler months.
Set under mono-pitch rooftops that complement the contemporary ascetic, the home is clad in a combination of plaster and vertical cedar. At the entrance, visitors are greeted with split River Stone, sourced from a local quarry, while decking, concrete patios and minimalist landscaping keeps the modern home looking streamlined.
Looking at this beautiful Landmark home, it’s easy to see why it was awarded Gold in the 2019 Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards.
Exceptional craftsmanship and superior quality that made the most of its natural surroundings captivated the judges, creating a stunning sanctuary that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
