Positioned on a sloping site, overlooking the South Island resort town of Wanaka, sits a home that’s mixing business and pleasure – with exceptional results.
Designed with both home comforts and investment in mind, this four-bedroom Landmark has been crafted into a unique H-shape to allow for two very distinct areas.
With the main living, master suite and guest bedroom on one side, and two additional guest bedrooms complete with ensuites on the other, it’s the perfect arrangement for holidaymakers who want stylish, homely – yet private – accommodation in the popular Central Otago township.
“From the start, the brief was to create a beautiful Landmark home which incorporated two rooms specifically for that holiday home market,” explains Landmark Homes Designer Debbie Clarke.
“Each wing has been designed to include its own bathroom and private exterior sitting area. The rooms can be privately accessed too, either from the outside or through the garage.”
One-of-a-kind accommodation
The home has been designed in response to both the client’s lifestyle requirements and the challenges of a sloping site, with a desire for something functional and aesthetically captivating.
Stepping from the entrance into the main landing area, each wing of the home is hidden from view. To the left, a staircase snakes up to a hallway that links to the two guest bedrooms.
To the right, double French doors conceal the open-plan living space, while ahead is an enclosed communal atrium between the rentable space and the main living quarters, accessible from both the entrance and the main living room. On one side of the outdoor area, a large cedar wall runs the length of the guest wing, concealing the two bedrooms from view for relaxed privacy.
The main wing of the home includes a luxe open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, with views out towards Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountain range. Behind the kitchen space, the master suite can be compartmentalised, thanks to a door between the connecting hallway and living area.
At the end of the hallway is a shared bathroom for those enjoying the living space and those staying in the guest bedroom. Continue on, and the master bedroom ends this wing of the home and includes a large walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, creating a private haven away from visitors.
Central Otago styling
Throughout the interior design, the colour palette seen in Central Otago has been used extensively, with stone greys, warm taupe and blonde cedar through the furnishings, floor and features.
A stylish schist fireplace stands as a central focal point and provides an accented feature area.
This use of natural materials and features flow inside to out, with copper-hued cedar enveloping the exterior walls of the home. Schist is used as a complementary feature across the entranceway, with a cedar door nestled among a schist-covered wall. Concrete has been used for retaining walls and also as steps down from the garage to the home below.
