Living the dream

A love of golf and the desire for a private sanctuary that offered picturesque views of the nearby rolling greens on their doorstep was a crucial factor that needed to be considered during the design stage.

“The couple are avid golfers, so they wanted that feeling of having a private haven while encompassing the vistas of the golf course. Their dream was to have a golf cart parked in the garage, so when we designed the house, we added a little wing off to the side, with its own roller door so the homeowner can easily store his golf cart,” Carly says.

Wow Factor

Although the couple were worried about moving from their larger home to a more compact footprint of 248m², the expertise of Landmark Homes Bay of Plenty’s design and construction team quickly allayed their fears. Keeping closely to the customer brief, Landmark has created a stunningly crafted, open and spacious single-level three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with two cosy and comfortable living areas. Expertly placed skylights in the kitchen and dining area flood the home with natural light making the home feel even more expansive and airy.

“The home is very inviting,” Carly says. “It feels like a private sanctuary while simultaneously being an entertainer’s dream. It’s definitely got that wow factor.”

The open-plan kitchen/dining flows seamlessly to a large uncovered deck that houses a swim spa perfect for soaking away the day and offers expansive views of the manicured green beyond.

Not only did Landmark exceed the client’s expectations on this award-winning Design and Build, but their expert team of builders and designers also harnessed the quality of their workmanship to create some truly outstanding features.

“The clients wanted to be a little bit more experimental with having a few different claddings,” Carly says of the choice to use a combination of brick, cedar, and Linear weatherboard that looks striking beneath the complex pitched roofline of the exterior. When you enter the home, you are treated to a well-kept secret, with the cedar-accented entryway hiding a beautiful garden nook filled with native greenery.

The neutral colour pallet on the interior adds to the light and airy feeling of space and sanctuary while allowing the client to showcase her colourful artwork that offers a gallery effect against the muted walls. Another unique feature of the interior is the bespoke glass splashback featuring eye-catching floral peonies in vibrant hues of pink. “This was quite an important feature for Penny, the owner,” Carly says. “She absolutely loved and raved about it.”

Carly says the Landmark Home in Ōmokoroa, awarded Regional Gold, was “a fully collaborative approach.”

“An award-winning home has to be a combination of things,” Carly says. “From the design to the workmanship, and, most importantly, meeting the client’s brief. The process has to be cohesive, and that is what we achieved.”
